Colonial Heights Public Schools is proud to announce that David "Dave" Flickinger, a physics and mathematics teacher at Colonial Heights High School, has been named the 2025-26 Division Teacher of the Year.
Mr. Flickinger’s connection to Colonial Heights High School spans decades, beginning with his student teaching at the school. Now celebrating his 30th year in education, he has become a cornerstone of the high school’s faculty, inspiring countless students and colleagues with his dedication, creativity, and passion for teaching.
An outstanding physics teacher, Mr. Flickinger has a talent for transforming complex scientific concepts into accessible and engaging lessons. Whether working with collaborative learners or honors students, he ensures every student feels supported, challenged, and motivated to succeed. His hands-on, interactive teaching methods make learning physics not only approachable but enjoyable, fostering a deep understanding of the subject among his students.
Beyond the classroom, Mr. Flickinger is deeply involved in the life of the school. He has served as a mentor in the teacher mentoring program, helping new educators grow and thrive. He also leads the school’s participation in the Battle of the Brains competition, showcasing his commitment to enriching students’ educational experiences. During spirit week, he can always be found teaming up with his “science squad” to boost school spirit and camaraderie.

As the Division Teacher of the Year, Mr. Flickinger will now represent Colonial Heights Public Schools in the regional and potentially state-level Teacher of the Year selection process.
