CHHS Spirit Found At Local IHOP
"Tonight, we went to IHOP for free pancakes and they were crazy busy, with one of the managers serving tables. This manager even had to bring her kids in to stay there until she gets off tonight due to being under staffed.

BUT this story is about these EXCEPTIONAL, polite, courteous, helpful, kind, gracious, endearing young men of the Colonial Heights High School soccer team. They saw tables full of dishes left from previous customers and servers with way too much of a load on them; so they jumped into action and started clearing and cleaning tables to help out.

I literally couldn't be prouder to be CHHS alum and see this and be a citizen of Colonial Heights and see this. This gives me hope. These 6 young men are everything we should ALL strive to be!!! I posted it to a local page so they can be recognized and with hopes to get in touch with their families to tell them of their greatness. I spoke with one family. I hope I can with the rest. I am also calling the school so they can hear just how amazing these guys are!

Just in case you're wondering - their meals were paid for by us. The restaurant didn't have a chance to do anything." - Local Colonial Heights Resident

First New Teacher Forum

Thank you to Chesterfield and Colonial Heights for partnering with VASCD!

Chesterfield County Schools hosted VASCD's first New Teacher Forum in November. The evening included dinner, a panel discussion, and small group conversations on concerns of new teachers. All new teachers in Virginia were offered free memberships in VASCD for 2017-18. They receive a newsletter each month containing resources curated for new teachers from ASCD's myTeachSource.

Pictured above are experienced educators from Colonial Heights and Henrico who volunteered to serve as panel members. From left to right are Joe Douglas, VASCD President; Dana Barefoot; Tabitha Strickler, VASCD's New Teacher Mentor; Robyn Green, Stephanie Root, and Tiffany Carter. Thanks for your contributions!

Principal's Message

February has come to an end and it is time to MARCH right into the next month. This busy month that will eventually lead us into Spring Break. We celebrate Ring Dance on Saturday, March 3rd. This is a Colonial Heights' tradition where the parents transform the gym into this year's theme a magical "Winter Wonderland."

The spring sports season is in full swing. The spring sportsmanship meeting was held on March 1st. DSA Gerald Carsley emphasized how imperative it is that Colonial athletes and fans display good fellowship and spirit at all school events.

We put a period on the winter sports season with our athletic awards on Monday, March 5th at 7:00 PM in the Jane Bryant Auditorium. That same night is our Parent/Teacher conferences from 4-7 PM. It is a long night, but we welcome the opportunity to have professional dialogue with parents. The staff is also spoiled by our PTSO with a lovely meal.

The Fine Arts festival takes place on Tuesday, March 20th at 6:00 PM. It is a great community event where we can see the talents of band, drama, art, and choir students across the division.

It is challenging to believe that CHHS administration will be holding its first mandatory graduation meeting for seniors and their parents on Monday, March 26th at 6:30. If you have graduation goodies to pick up from Herff Jones, I would arrive between 5:45 and 6:00. This is the first of two dates. The other meeting is Monday, April 9th at the same time. One of the meetings must be attended.

The month ends the third nine weeks and the opportunity for our students and staff to hear guest speaker, Chris Herren. Here is information on the presentation straight from Mr. Herren's website:

Chris Herren is former NBA basketball player, motivational speaker, author and sobriety advocate who struggled with substance abuse for much of his basketball career. Alcohol and drug-free since August 1, 2008, he has refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else. He shares his harrowing story of abuse and recovery in his memoir, Basketball Junkie, as well as in numerous interviews throughout the Emmy nominated ESPN Films documentary Unguarded, of which he is the subject.

Have a wonderful and peaceful month Colonials! Let's continue working hard.
