The month of September is here! Our maintenance team has been placing the finishing touches on our school buildings and grounds. New teachers have been trained and oriented. Staff has been learning, planning, and creating.

This school year is different, but it is still going to be a great one! I am really proud of our staff and school community. We were able to build a virtual and a brick and mortar school with our existing team. I appreciate patience and grace as we navigate this new territory together.

We are using a new digital platform this year called Canvas. At the high school, the majority of our staff used our prior platform, Schoology. Children will be introduced and will become well-versed in Canvas beginning on the first day.

The high school opens both virtually and brick-and-mortar on Tuesday, September 8th. It is an EVEN day, so high school attends blocks 2 and 4.

For brick-and-mortar students, doors open at 7:30am. We will be following designated entry point procedures that will take time. Arrive by 7:50am. Students will be temperature checked. Students need to arrive with their masks on and practice social distancing. Please bring student schedules from Powerschool, an additional mask, personal hand sanitizer, and earbuds.

Once in the building, students will report directly to their 2nd block class using one-directional hallways. This procedure of reporting directly to class is a permanent component this year. For more specific details, please go through the slideshow posted on the high school’s website. Parents and students can also view the handbook addendum posted under the “Families and Students” tab under 2020-21 handbook.

Virtual students need to arrive in their classes by 7:50am. Students will gain admittance by their teachers. Pupils will obtain this information from their CHPS student emails. Once the link is obtained, students need to enter using their given names and must be visible on camera. Like the brick and mortar students, the sideshow and the handbook addendum have more specific details that should be viewed prior to school starting.

Our virtual and brick and mortar children will have a fee and supply afternoon and night on Thursday, September 10th from 1-7pm at the front loop of the high school. Masks are required. A dialer and an announcement slide will be made with details. This is a great opportunity to pick up a yearbook and pay class dues. It is also a great opportunity for virtual students to pick up class supplies that are necessary from their teachers.

I am blessed. This is my 11th year as your principal . It is not something that I take for granted. We have a wonderful school community that I am honored to serve. If you need anything, please ask. We are just an email or phone call away.

My staff and I cannot wait to welcome our children back on September 8th, regardless of location. We are ready!

With Colonial Pride,

Kristin Janssen, CHHS Principal
