AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY I

(1 Block, 1 Semester)
Pre-Requisite: Grade 10 or 11; 16 years of age by October 1

In this first year of the two-block program sequence, students learn all aspects of hand/power tools, basic repair, safety, and customer service by concentrating on the four primary ASE/NATEF certified areas: Brakes, Steering and Suspension, Electrical/Electronics, and Engine Performance.

Students will read and apply technical information from a variety of documents or electronic media.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY II

(1 Block, full year)
Pre-Requisite: Auto Tech I

Students continue implementation of all the aspects of repair, safety, and customer service by concentrating on the four primary Automotive Service Excellence/National Automotive Technicians Foundation (ASE/NATEF certified areas: Brakes, Steering and Suspension, Electrical/Electronics, and Engine performance.

Students who successfully complete this program sequence will be prepared to take and pass the respective ASE/NATEF exams, Virginia State Inspection License exam, and will be prepared for postsecondary education opportunities.

Students 18 years of age who take and pass the Virginia State Police Safety Inspection examination will be issued a certified Inspection License by the Virginia State Police.
